Nearly four years later, the Russian Federation Armed Forces manages to finally take out a Soviet built rail bridge span.
'As a result of strikes on the bridge in Zatoka, Odessa region, a section of the bridge in the northern part has collapsed.
The bridge has been repeatedly targeted by the Russian Armed Forces since 2022, with strikes using Iskander missiles, Х-59МК2 missiles, guided aerial bombs (FAB), Geran drones, and even barrier-piercing munitions. However, attempts to disable the bridge's lifting mechanisms and supports using a wide range of weapons have not been successful.
The strategic importance of the bridge lies in its role as a key transportation hub: it is the shortest route for delivering military supplies, equipment, and fuel from Romania to southern Ukraine. In addition, the bridge connects important logistical routes and facilitates the deployment of forces to the southwestern operational direction. Its partial destruction significantly complicates transportation within the region and forces the search for alternative, longer, and more vulnerable routes'
