Guy Nohra "So let's go back to the young people people freak out when they hear 65 percent think socialism is a better idea, etc. Everybody panics. What are the issues that they wanted President Trump to address on their behalf in 2024?"
Rich Barris "That's a great question that nobody asks. Number 1 is accountability, of course affordability is it, it comes down to the fact that they can't afford things that prior generations afforded at this point in their lives. They feel like they're left behind in that sense. But there's an accountability component to this. There are people who did this at their expense and they want them to pay for it. It's why DOGE was so popular with Gen Z. The DOGE cuts and the investigations, maybe the entire country doesn't like Elon Musk but younger ppl did. If anyone can get in there find the waste, fraud and corruption, Elon Musk can put his tools to use for that.
Trump hurt a lot of republican candidates with his immigration policy. Because the young believe I'm going to college, I'm getting a degree and they're importing somebody from another country and giving them an H1B Visa and I'm getting the shaft! They didn't want ICE to go scoop up just the agricultural worker picking beans, if you're going to go get the little guy, you have to go get the big guy too. They viewed it as unfair.
Covid is still fresh in thier minds, so if we're talking accountability, the fact that nothing has happened to anybody. They wanted vaccine manufacturers punished for a product that was not delivered safely with efficacy as prior vacinations. And the Trump admin gets in there, runs into the pharmecuitical lobby and that's the end of that!
The Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) did include some stuff that helped them but it was all wrapped up in one giant bill and they didn't see the economic benefit to them, no tax on tips ended up being convuluted, they wait tables to get through college,
Housing.. and Trump just took the position that helps people who own homes already but it didn't help them at all. They were under the impression Trump would do something to make buying a home or even rent affordable again, instead Trump tool the opposite course.
If I could put this all into one thing ... In America we sell the idea of the American Dream. You work hard and achieve that dream, which ultimately is home ownership. Home Ownership is what it boils down to. After about six months they realized Trumps not even trying to get that for them at all. [Trump's public statement, not doing anything about lowering housing costs because homeowners are going around with thier chests puffed out that thier home value is to high] If you work hard enough people can get the American Dream just at least look like Trump is trying to get that for them.
Guy Nohe: Barris is a messenger. Don't shoot the messenger but people do. I want the employer that employs illegals to be out of business. [But Trump has come out against that policy, officially]
Rich Barris "I've told the admin that Trump is the primary messenger... Trumps sits down with Laura Ingram and says, "We don't have talented people in America." Trump puts his big foot in his mouth again. It's almost like Trump doesn't care anymore. I told him show a little empathy. What happened to the Trump who said, "I hear your voice" I played a clip of the 2016 convention and said, "Where the hell did this guy go?" Now he's on Truth Social saying if you care about the Epstein Files I don't want your support anymore." Or "If you don't like the war, now I'm going to make Iran Great Again!"
There's a bitterness to Donald Trump that is shining through very clearly to these young people. Trump is the primary messenger, and he's killing it, what is he doing??"
