AI Companies Destroying Books ! Massive Legal Questions Not Asked?

Seems we need legislation and a means to ensure mysterious bulk book buying has limits. Here is why.
1. WE have no means to know if the original physical book got altered when scanned into the AI system if the original book is destroyed. There is no way then to compare the two after the scanning into digital format is completed and since AI is so advanced now it can literally rewrite the book; And, without the original physical book there is no way to know.

2. Capitalism takes priority over human physical sensory experiences when it comes to reading a book and having a bookstore or a library. The question then is why are people human if everything is digitized? There is a whole reason why we have the five senses and this equates well with why we read with physical objects and respect the art of the printing press as well as the art and style of the physical book.

The legality of this practice was solidified by a federal court ruling in June 2025. In the case Bartz v. Anthropic, Judge William Alsup ruled that destructive scanning constitutes fair use under US copyright law. 

The judge reasoned that because the physical book was destroyed and the digital copy was not redistributed but used internally for training, the digital file effectively "replaced" the physical one.  This legal precedent created a financial incentive: destroying the book is cheaper than storing it, and the "transformative" nature of the act provides legal cover that non-destructive scanning might not. 

Ok, question: After the Digital scanning is completed and stored. How do we know if the digital book matches the original book when the original book is destroyed and the books are digitized 500k to 2 Million within a 6 month window? Where is the quality assurance?

To manage the optics and logistics, AI companies reportedly utilize third-party intermediaries. 

ISBNdb: A book database company faced scrutiny after a since-deleted webpage offered to source up to one million books for AI clients, emphasizing the value of pre-2022 texts.  The company later claimed this was merely a "test of market interest" and that they never facilitated such sales.

Anonymous Purchases: Booksellers in the US, Europe, and Australia have reported a surge in anonymous bulk orders for out-of-print and specialist titles.  These buyers often pay upfront and request specific, low-circulation books, leading to fears that unique copies are vanishing from the market without a trace. 

So Severe Legal Conclusion/Question?:
Is there any trace of rare or hard to get books vanishing from the spectrum of book sellers or libraries? How do we know? We are not in WWII or WWI or the Christian Wars or Rome. But the way our Nation is behaving and Capitalism is taking ownership of our Books by Digitizing them and destroying them. How do we know if the originals are still available to buy if they are rare or hard to get? This only leads to books being made available after the printing system or physical copies are non-existent and then these AI companies are sitting on a gold mine of knowledge that we the public have no access to because these very companies destroyed the originals. This in its act on its own is illegal market practice. Period.
What is the different of an AI company scanning a blueprint and destroying the blueprint after scanning and then no one is able to reprint the blueprint because it was one of a kind and the only owner at that point is the AI company? There are laws on the books to safeguard against this very dynamic destructive Market system! We need to stop protecting the book digitizing companies with this behavior they are doing and have real legal ramifications and safeguards through Congressional Laws and the Supreme Courts to ensure we do not lose our Libraries, our Book Stores, and our rights to find rare and hard to find books with unique history, culture, discussions. Period.
