Ventilator Wars Continue...
My boyfriend went into the ICU after emergency surgery to remove a gangrenous testicle. With the help of my attorney, I successfully prevented him from being placed on a ventilator on Sunday, May 24th, following a minor emergency around noon to stop some bleeding. This happened right after his first cleaning and debridement, which is an incredibly painful process.
During today's cleaning and debridement, my boyfriend never fully recovered. By 11:30, he was still in terrible pain. I asked the floor doctor, Dr. Sharma, if there was access to a hospital pain clinic to help manage his pain, or if he could be placed on a small, continuous drip of pain medication. Dr. Sharma said NO, CLAIMING THAT BECAUSE MY BF IS NOT A VENTILATOR, TOO MUCH PAIN MEDICATIONS COULD MAKE HIM STOP BREATHING.
So therefore, apparently it is MY fault for keeping my boyfriend off a ventilator that he is in pain? Dr. Sharma's answer also reveals that they weren't planning on just having him on a ventilator for a few hours on Sunday—they were planning for him to be on a ventilator for DAYS.
I went to try to find Dr. Sharma's photo so that I could show it to everyone. He has been with BWHC for at least two years, yet he is the only doctor without a photo on his profile. I looked up the origin of his last name, and it is Indian or Nepalese. He is very nice and agreeable in person, but is he making me and my boyfriend pay for refusing the ventilator by leaving him with extra pain?
