Does the fact that the Republican pro-Gallrein people are out telling Massie supporters they aren't part of the party influence anyone to choose not to vote, or vote Democrat out of spite?

Because at this point: Trump called you stupid for wanting the Epstein files. He called you a Democrat hoaxer for caring about affordability. Now Levin and Bongino and all the other influencers are saying "you aren't part of our party you antisemitic racist nazis." When the Republican starts calling people ists that disagree with them, it means you aren't part of their party if you disagree. That tactic works for the left--they have top-down control of their party ideologically. So they can dictate what their party members think with a really effective straight-down line of propaganda control. The right is not like that. It is decentralized and diverse in thought.

There are certain ideological principles which must be consistent--things like being pro-free speech and anti-censorship, that dictate in party or not. Except, the Republicans under the 2025 Trump presidency implemented hate speech policies and signed laws and prosecuted people for speech they called "antisemitism". So the people telling you, you're not in the Republican party if you support Massie do not support free speech. They believe in their version of acceptable speech.

These people aren't different from Democrats. Their comments sections are full of propagandized people--what did Dan Bongino accomplish in office? In one of the highest law enforcement positions in the land? Did he get reforms done, so we won't be under threat of Democrats if they win again? Did anyone get suspended, punished for abuses under COVID and for Jan 6 or political support for Trump? How about whoever put the documents in the sacks in the closets at the FBI? Did anyone lose their job over that?

There appears to be a contingent of the right that doesn't care about results. They believe Trump is doing an excellent job. They didn't care about "no new wars", "the Epstein files", or immigration. They only care about what Fox news tells them to care about today. What are we getting? What are the results? Expanded TSA biometrics--but you are already tracked everywhere so that doesn't matter, we can keep our shoes on now. A blown out government budget bigger than Biden's--but the economy is doing great guys so it's ok for us to spend more. Cheaper healthcare costs? Nah, we're gonna keep Obamacare AND we're gonna increase your insurance costs, we're also gonna keep centralizing your hospital systems and add more licensure requirements for health professionals. Did you want cheaper homes? How about a 50 year mortgage and we weaken the rules for Black Rock's investment into your slave divisions. Oops I mean subdivisions. Work til you're dead, peasant. And oh yeah, we need all those Chinese and Indians to come here because you're not talented enough to get a job you got that $100k degree for. You're just a lazy sunuvabitch. Go lay bricks like I did to pay for my degree. Nevermind that you'd be laying bricks at a school for $5/hr because that's the going rate for illegals, and no Republican is ever going to enforce contract laws for government money that require E-verify to make sure your tax dollars don't pay for illegal labor. You're getting fucked on both ends of that deal. We have to worry about the employers guys, the businesses that'd be hurt by enforcing our labor laws.

Do you all remember the congressional committee meeting, where the blonde Rep was railing at RFK Jr for being antisemitic? Just because he pointed out that they appeared to have an ethnic resistance to COVID when commenting on medical study results? And she just kept yelling at him about being antisemitic? Without letting him answer? The influencers on the right are acting like that.

Well ok, I guess I'm not part of your party then.

His moment of greatness

And it was quite literally his only moment of greatness in the three games! 😂

What’s incredible is how expensive everything has gotten, even the most traditional family outings.

Admittedly, we were five kids and two adults, but it was over $35 per person to play three games of bowling.

Then you have to rent the shoes.

And the food, if you order it, is overpriced junk.

But, we had a moment!

Questions for Bourbon w/ Barnes: Thursday, May 21, 2026

Ask questions in replies and answering live at 9ish eastern tonight....

I'm feeling perversely morose today so, I thought, what better way to spend my time than to construct one of those annoying moral tests. You know, like the ones with trolleys, fat guys, track diverters, etc.

Only this time, I thought, lets make it personal. Let's get some skin in the game.

So, anyway, you and your family (spouse and 3 children--gender irrelevance assumed) are walking through an underpass late at night. There's a sidewalk on your side, a 4 lane highway, and a sidewalk on the other side. There are concrete walls right behind both sidewalks that support the whole structure but no pillars or anything to hide behind, so you and your family are totally exposed with nowhere to hide. You have a pistol holstered under your shoulder, though, just in case of trouble.

There's no traffic but there's a family, just like yours, in exactly the same situation across the street about 45 feet away. Suddenly, the father of the other family steps behind his wife and children for cover, ...

The aquarium blackout worked

It looks like five days of blackout successfully killed the blue algae.

We had a few minor casualties. But I’m sure we would’ve had more if we tried the chemical treatment.

Experiment complete! Will revert if blue algae comes back :-)

Art of the Day

  • The cowboy hat on a country fence in the country. Americana defined. Independence. Freedom. Conviction. The best traits of America captured in the yeoman farmer of Jeffersonian lore. The echoes of a country song about love and loss, heartbreak and hope, a whisper of the future amidst the distress of the day. The sun ain’t set yet.

The Barnes Brief: Weekend of May 15, 2026
Art of the Day
  • With its signature clock, red brick walls, and wooden floor interiors, I remember well the chapel I first set to publicly speak as a 10-year old — Phillips Chapel, Highland Park, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Damaged a few years back by a fire, evangelicals founded the church in 1922 as part of the Indpendent Baptist movement I grew up in. MLK met with Reverend Lee Roberson here during the Civil Rights movement. My first moment on stage ended quickly, as I forgot my speech, panicked at the size of the crowd, and my little ten year old feet scampered across the wooden floors in fear of total embarrassment. Fond memories!
