I was listening to Robert Malone on Joe Rogan, and he mentioned the movie Gattaca. Said everybody should absolutely watch it.
I hadn’t seen it since the first time I saw it,25+ years ago.
Watched it last night with the Mrs. and Ethan.
The only thing I remembered about the movie was the swimming scene.
The movie was great. I was just surprised at how disjoined the famous last line was from the plot of the movie itself. Ultimately, just a murder mystery in the backdrop of a dystopian future.
“I never saved anything for the swim back”.
In my memory, I thought they were trying to swim across some body of water in order to reach the other side to freedom.
The line is still a great line. An iteration I guess of not leaving anything in the tank. I just realized that it is all dependent on the length of the race. Not saving anything for the swim back will vary, depending on how long the swim is. You still have to gauge how to finish the race without leaving anything in the tank, depending on the length.
Almost as meaningful, or maybe it just means something different to me now: when the brother says “we are too far from shore”.
Metaphorically, maybe a representation for science, having gone too far. Also, a representation of the underlying need of everyone, even the genetically enhanced in a dystopian future, for familiarity and family.
Ok deep thought of the morning. Walk dog. Drink coffee. Go to dog shelter.
Booya.
