Article from Jonathan Turley on Maduro arrest - Ep. 4
I like this article from Jonathan Turley, primarily because it makes me feel smart because it’s effectively what I said in my video yesterday.
Set aside the rightness or wrongness of Trump’s Venezuela strike and Maduro’s arrest, Turley makes the point: virtually every other administration has done the same / similar thing.
So it’s either legitimate action AND there is precedent, or it’s illegitimate BUT every other administration has done it and it has been tolerated.
The problem is that we KNOW Democrats / Deep State are shameless, malicious hypocrites. They don’t have double-standards - they have HIERARCHY. They and their brethren can get away with murder (literally), and they don’t care. Mission accomplished!
Trump, however, makes a legal retainer payment to his lawyer, and BAM! 34 felony indictment.
We have also seen activist judges bend over backwards and give a massage to actual criminals to spite Trump’s agenda.
One can only predict with virtual certainty you will see the same here - both at the judicial and political level. Obama can kill with impunity. Trump and his admin will get impeached for this. (With the small caveat that despite their pissing and moaning, Democrats and corporate war whores are probably very happy with this decision, but will still use it against Trump in the short run for their political profit).
That is not to say that you let your adversaries dictate your strategy. But it must be factored into how you deal with you adversaries - and allies.
Now for those of you who follow me on X, you might be saying “ Viva, ya cheap bastard, this is your post from X! How does this count as your resolution for a daily Locals post?
What I did not say on Twitter, not out of fear or because I would say anything in Locals that I would not say elsewhere - the Internet is the Internet. A statement in the smallest corners is still a statement to the world…
If Republicans lose the midterms, and if they lose in 2028, you know that Democrats will play dirty and will play for keeps. as happy as many of them are with this Maduro action, they will reap the benefits while weapon the act.
I wish Trump had not burned bridges with MTG and Massie. It is possible to disagree on issues without feeling the need to demonize and castigate the individual, who would have been more useful as an ally with whom you disagree, than an adversary you seek to destroy.
Trump and republicans will need all the support they can get… All the energy they can galvanized… Trump cannot afford to have burned the bridges that he has based on the disagreements that he had.
At this point, I suspect it’s probably too late to walk things back. And I hope I am wrong or that there are developments between now and November.
It is just the learning lesson that you don’t always agree with people on your side. And they do not immediately cease being on your side because of disagreement on specific issues.
But politics today is dirty, it’s tribalist, it’s all or nothing.
A lesson that any exchange on Twitter will unhappily and forcibly teach you.
