New Year’s resolution

Got up at 6 o’clock this morning and made it to the airport. Sitting here waiting for our plane to take off. trying to contemplate what my “New Year’s resolution” should be. Seems like the thing to do. 😂

First thing is I’m going to get a DSLR for streaming. I think I need a better camera. Not sure I need all the bells and whistles that other streamers have on the screen while live, but a sharper image with a nice depth of field would be value added.

In the new year, I would like to do more in-person interviews. The whole “systems are better than goals” is always in the back of my mind. So I need to figure out what the system would be… reach out to at least 2 people a week as a system would be good, and that should start rolling smoothly after a bit.

I am going to commit to daily posts with observations / thoughts on Locals. Law, politics, life. Like a diary of reflection and community interaction, above and beyond the daily live stream after party.

Today’s observation: Canada as I knew it is finished. It’s a nonjudgmental observation: Canada as I knew it is just over. Every time I come back, it feels like visiting someone who is aging, and with every visit, the changes with age become even more noticeable.

It is obvious that Canada is using immigration for cheap labor, and to create basically indentured servant voters.

I went to a Tim Hortons. It was run by two folks from India. Nice, polite, good natured. But clearly not originally from Canada. Clearly being exploited by the Tim Hortons corporation presumably because of cheap labor / government subsidies. And totally incapable of running the operation. The coffee was repulsive. The food literally looked like prison gruel. I couldn’t even finish it. They could barely speak French. It was a quiet January 1, 8 o’clock in the morning, and they could barely handle the five people who were ordering.

I go to a gas station, it was so sketchy I didn’t want to get out of the car so I drove to another gas station.

At that gas station, the individual working behind the counter also appeared to be a foreigner. Spoke French with a heavy accent.

When we returned the rental car, the men working there were from India or Pakistan. A nice guy who mentioned his name was Mohammed, and that my kid reminded him of his brother back home.

The driver of the shuttle bus did not speak English, and spoke broken in French.

Admittedly this is an industrial area on the morning of January 1. But the demographic shift in Canada is undeniable. in Quebec it’s even more noticeable simply because immigration tends to favor people who come from French speaking countries other than France.

I communicated this observation to someone, and they humorously said “you mean it’s multicultural”. Humorously suggesting the observation is immoral / racist.

The morality of the statement is totally irrelevant in comparison to its objective accuracy. For good or for bad, whether you like it or not, the demographic of the country has changed so radically - native-born Canadians who speak the languages are clearly decreasing in comparison to those who are coming in via Canada’s effectively open border policies.

Whether or not it works in the long run, to be determined. But if the present is any indicator, it’s not working. And it won’t work out.

If the idea is that Canada is open to the world, then Canada no longer exists for Canadians. The country has been given to the world, and needs of Canadians - regardless of their race, religion or creed - were the sacrifice.

The government is clearly saying to the citizens “anyone and everyone in the world is just as Canadian as you if we let them in. so shut up and pay more taxes, because someone’s gotta pay for your involuntary sacrifice”.

Prices are ridiculous. It’s like cartoon money. Taxes are ridiculous. It’s like government robbery.

And those are my thoughts.

P.S. also potential New Year’s resolution is to stop swearing on the Internet.

And to try and get my OCD behaviors under control. But that is not so much a decision as an impulse. So perhaps the system is to try some form of meditation or cognitive behavioral therapy.

We’ll see.

Godspeed, God bless, and happy new year!

His moment of greatness

And it was quite literally his only moment of greatness in the three games! 😂

What’s incredible is how expensive everything has gotten, even the most traditional family outings.

Admittedly, we were five kids and two adults, but it was over $35 per person to play three games of bowling.

Then you have to rent the shoes.

And the food, if you order it, is overpriced junk.

But, we had a moment!

Thomas Massie vs. Ed Gallrein

No judgment, I just want to see the discrepancy between our Locals community and X.

Who do you all want to win tomorrow’s Kentucky primary?

Still a little black-pilled

The results from yesterday‘s midterm remind me of scenes from two movies:

Killing Zoe: when the bank robbers finally reach all of the gold, after the bank robbery has gone totally awry, the French bank robber lead actor/villain says “we are rich” as he strokes the gold.

Eric Stoltz - the good guy sucked into the bank robbery gone south - says “whoa, we’re not out of here yet”.

To which the villain says in his French accent “yes, but we are rich”.

The other line was from Rushmore: “they can buy anything, but they can’t buy backbone”.

I briefly chatted with two guys at the bowling alley yesterday. Mid 50s/early 60s. Said I Was very much distracted by the Kentucky primaries (before results started coming in). they weren’t even aware that Kentucky primaries were going on, and when I told them who was running, they said “oh that guy… isn’t he the anti-Trump guy?”

And you realize the power of propaganda. Two people who barely even knew the core detail that the primary was even happening, knew the ...

Art of the Day
  • With its signature clock, red brick walls, and wooden floor interiors, I remember well the chapel I first set to publicly speak as a 10-year old — Phillips Chapel, Highland Park, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Damaged a few years back by a fire, evangelicals founded the church in 1922 as part of the Indpendent Baptist movement I grew up in. MLK met with Reverend Lee Roberson here during the Civil Rights movement. My first moment on stage ended quickly, as I forgot my speech, panicked at the size of the crowd, and my little ten year old feet scampered across the wooden floors in fear of total embarrassment. Fond memories!

Art of the Day

  • This abstraction captures something more of the symphonic spirit in the seamless synethsis of function and feel, utility and aesthetic, that is my favorite place in my hometown — the Walnut Street Bridge, whose blue beams and wooden planks cross the Tennessee River, and whose path I took each day to work as a young lawyer for a public interest law clinic defending the victims of abuse be they parents or banks. The feeling of precision integrated into nature, crossing it, overcoming it, and experiencing it at the same time, this local artist best captures the sense of the Birdge as I fondly remember it, expressed in its geometric shape, friendly colors, and textured echo of memory past.
