I MADE IT HOME!

Just landed.

A 9-hour flight from Paris to Miami.

Watched 4 movies.

Review:

1) American Sniper: everything was good about the movie - except the movie.

It was as though it was intended to be the most clichéd movie ever, from dialogue to action sequences.

The only thing that saved the movie was the actual story behind the movie. The sacrifice those who serve make.

The horrors they go through.

The difficulty to reintegrate.

But the movie was just awful. From beginning (with the awful acting and dialogue of the bar scene) to middle (with the fake baby doll and Cooper trying to wiggle the fingers to make the doll look like a baby) to the end - where they skip over the compounded tragedy of not even endeavoring to explore another broken veteran with PTSD / schizophrenia killing the American Sniper.

Just an end-screen caption.

The movie did nothing to serve justice to the true story.

2) The Beekeeper: John Wick meets phone scammers. Just awful. And for some reason, every bad guy in this movie - about phone scammers - is a young white male.

Yeah. 40 minutes in and I’m turning it off.

Jason Statham. An actor with the character depth of a one-key piano.

A movie as unfunny, and unexciting, and unoriginal as a one-key piano,

Ok I gave it 5 more minutes and then realized the old guy was Jeremy Irons.

Ok, I’m out. After a women villain in a link jacket with a Tommy gun get burned to death and Statham cuts her finger off like it was the cake in an episode of “is it cake”?

It’s not just a John Wick remix. They threw in an excessive dose of DEI.

Ok I skipped to the last 5 minutes. Statham escapes in a scuba suit.

Thanks goodness I saved 50 minutes on a 9-hour flight.

3) Le Routard (The Rookie Guide). French movie about a guy who decides to travel the world but realizes he doesn’t know how to travel. He gets a job for a globetrotter magazine and a whacky adventure ensues.

Fun, a little silly on some of the slapstick comedy. But a vicarious trip through Marakesh.

4) Sinners: I liked it better when it was called “From Dusk to Dawn”, Except I didn’t like From Dusk to Dawn either.

This movie that is technically well done, but utterly offensive.

It starts off as a Mississippi time-piece about to brothers coming back from Chicago to start a blues house in the delta.

After overran hour, it suddenly turns into a vampire zombie movie about white vampires killing the black party attendees / turning them into vampires.

They even had a scene where the white guys with blood on their mouthes were dancing an Irish jig

It’s the most offensive piece of racist trash I have ever seen and I want the 2 hours and 17 minutes of my life back.

It’s impossible to describe how bad this movie is.

Everyone involved in making this movie should go to jail.

Race baiting trash is what this movie is,

Unless I misunderstood something.

back.

See you all tomorrow!

Summary of press conference

I watched the pipe bomber arrest press conference. I found it very unsatisfying. They basically said they’re not going to reveal any of the evidence for the time being, and except in accordance with the legal process.

Judge Pirro is the only one who gave the slightest indication of what the conclusive evidence was. Apparently they traced the sale/purchase of the pipe bomb cap and/or other materials to this individual.

Other than this clip, no evidence was provided during the press conference.

Appearance on Richard Syrette

I did a quick hit on Richard Syrette yesterday. Gotta keep Canadians apprised of the U.S. madness.

The Barnes Brief: Weekend of November 21, 2025

I.    INTRODUCTION

A. Art of the Day

We the People. It stands out above all in the scribed parchment inside the glass-encased shield inside the Rotunda of Congress with three words bigger than the rest: We The People. Penned on a single sheet of animal skin by Jacob Shallus, it stands out as the Great Charter of American liberty, the profound experiment in self-government, and still stands today as the oldest and shortest written constitution of any major government in the world today. Those words stand out above the rest, written in flowing letters outsized to the text, to remind the world upon what power our government sits: We the People.

B. Wisdom of the Day

“Monopoly is a great enemy” and a “wretched spirit” which poses a greater threat to the free market than as it prevents free enterprise from self-defense. Adam Smith.

C. Cultural Recommendation

Ratification: The People Debate the Constitution tells the tale of what the true founders – the generation that birthed freedom on this continent – thought as they argued the merits of this new document. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7841680-ratification

I. INTRODUCTION

A. Art of the Day

One place where AI proves fun is its image generation capacity, whether for memes, dystopian dreams, otherworldly experiences, or translating photos and ideas into the templated work of famous painters. I asked it to convert this meme into a Hopper painting, and it turns out quite fun, as it blurs and blends the images into the spirit of the people and place, as Hopper so masterfully made so often. A Hush Hush of its own accord.

B. Wisdom of the Day

“AI is unfalsifiable and thus unscientific.” Erik Larson.

C. Cultural Recommendation

The Myth of Artificial Intelligence: Why Computers Can’t Think the Way We Do. The author, an AI researcher himself, explains why much of AI’s narrative is pure fiction.
