(1) ISM's statement is hilariously ridiculous.
"Aysenur Eygi, a 26-year-old American, was probably mistakenly killed during an altercation in the northern West Bank last Friday, according to an IDF statement released Tuesday.
An initial IDF probe said that soldiers were aiming for a "central instigator" but likely also struck and killed Eygi unwittingly.
The statement said that the altercation included dozens of Palestinians throwing rocks and burning tires at soldiers at the Bita junction in the West Bank. In addition, the IDF said it had opened a criminal probe into the incident and would transfer the findings to the legal division when concluded, along with a request to perform an autopsy on Eygi's body...ISM activists who were on the ground have said that the IDF's explanation was inadequate as their lives were not in danger from rocks being thrown from a distance...."

(2a) South Africa's strategy throughout the genocide case is to poison the well through various measures for preliminary relief (where they don't need to really go into evidence) at the ICJ against Israel (which to be fair isn't really hard to do when the presiding judge is a former Lebanese diplomat with a history of calling Israel every name in the books and various other judges are aligned politically with him against Israel). Even so, the actual filings by South Africa relied on taking statements out of context and on (largely) shoddy reports by the UN and other organizations that have been as the war has drawn out made to look more and more ridiculous (not that the ideological judges much care about that). They even cited old reports like Goldstone from years back that have long been discredited (to the point where even Goldstone denounced them). The simple fact is that a basic glance at South Africa's own sourcing for their filings should have been enough to debunk much of their own assertions. Still shows like the Duran went along and praised the ICJ judges and their rulings against the Israelis (making statements like "I would rule exactly as these judges/this court" and the like and also praising the South African presentation while castigating the Israeli presentation) and went along with the Israeli genocide narrative based on the fact that Netanyahu said something something about Amalek during a speech (which is true but (a) the reference doesn't mean what the Duran and S. Africa think it means and (b) within the context of the speech it is clear he is speaking about how Hamas behaves and (c) within the same speeches about Amalek Netanyahu maintains a combatant-civilian distinction as it relates to Gaza). While ultimately, we do not know how this whole judicial saga ends, it is a mark on the court that they did not dismiss the case from its onset and continued to play again with much of S. Africa's requests. To be fair, dissenting opinions written by judges (particularly Aharon Barak and Julia Sebutine) are of excellent quality and blast the court for their own misconduct.
Now with a new government (which is mostly the old and presided by the same but with more moderate parties included in a coalition government) in South Africa, there are elements of a pro-Western and pro-Israel view that have a say there about the case.
"South Africa is attempting to postpone the deadline for which it would have to submit its evidence at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague due to a lack of evidence pointing to genocide in Gaza, according to KAN news on Tuesday.
South Africa is required to submit its evidence by October 28. However, the report noted that it is now attempting to add a few more months to the timeline.
On Monday, Walla reported, citing a classified memo from the Foreign Ministry, that Israel was seeking the help of US Congress in applying pressure on South Africa to halt proceedings against it.
In late December, South Africa filed a complaint at the ICJ, charging that Israel had violated the United Nations 1948 convention on the prevention of genocide. It accused Israel of committing genocide during its operations in the Gaza Strip in the framework of the Israel-Hamas War.
In May, the ICJ ordered Israel to stop any military operation in Rafah that destroys the Palestinian people in “whole or in part."
However, the court did not order the IDF to withdraw from Gaza or end its military operation in it. "
