Canadian Pravda

It’s the corruption we have been talking about for years… How the Canadian media uses taxpayer dollars to coerce media into submission.

Canads recently passed Bill C-18 - the so-called “link tax”. It will force Google and Facebook to pay news purists for even linking to original source articles.

I could understand the rationale if Google and Facebook were displaying the articles, without linking directly to them, since this would be siphoning traffic and add revenue away from the original source. But a link tax to even redirect to the original source makes absolutely no sense - until one appreciate that it makes total sense.

Now the government has threatened to cut off ad spending on both Google and Facebook. Provincial government has followed suit.

It is the corruption we have been talking about. They did it with Covid. They do it with government propaganda at large. Coerce a financially impoverished media into promoting government narrative, or cut them off from both direct and indirect financial subsidies if they don’t.

The only difference is that Google and Facebook don’t need it, and Facebook is giving the government the middle finger on this.

Much to the government’s joy. Now, access to news is even more censored in Canada.

The Barnes Brief: Halloween, 2025

I.   INTRODUCTION

A. Art of the Day

  • As harvest ends, we commence the remembrance of death itself, recognizing its role in the cycle of life, as All Hallows Eve awaits the All Souls Day to follow. Our Celtic ancestors, and many contemporary Mexican celebrants with their Day of the Dead, see the sun set into winter’s moon, and the souls of those alive and past dance in the foggy merriment, with the light & the darkness competing for the souls of us all.

B. Wisdom of the Day

  • “I have to study politics and war so that my sons can study mathematics, commerce, and agriculture, so their sons can study poetry, painting and music.” John Quincy Adams.

I.   INTRODUCTION

A. Art of the Day

A rainy day in a French café, enjoying an orange presse and a well-made latte, with a good book to digest, amidst the quiet conversations in neghboring tables, a place to disappear lost in thought amidst the soft tap-tap-tap of the water on the windowsill.

B. Wisdom of the Day

“There’s always one more thing you can do to influence any situation in your favor—and after that one more thing, and after that…. The more you do the more opportunities arise.” Lieutenant General Harold Moore, born in the heart of Bourbon country and served in Vietnam.
