Art of the day: Peter Lik

Peter Lik is an incredible Australian photographer. He takes absolutely majestic landscape shots. Unfortunately, the Internet cannot do his work justice. He employs a printing technique which brings out the colour and the light to such a point, that you think you were looking at a projection, or a television screen. enjoy!

“Lik is best known for his panoramic photos, and the large size and overall quality of his prints.[2] He typically shoots panoramas with a Linhof 617 Technorama camera, using Fuji film. He also shoots digital, primarily using Phase One and Nikon cameras. He prints most of his photos on FujiFlex silver-halide paper, which increases the light sensitivity and glow, and helps accentuate the vibrant colors in the print.”

My office right now.

I developed a procedure for tapping threads and installing threaded inserts into Baltic Birch Plywood. This procedure is important because BB Plywood is so hard and dense that normal threaded inserts cannot be effectively installed without damage or misalignment. Accuracy and repeatability are important because the durability and longevity of any design which fasteners that don't directly damage the host material are automatically increased. In short, it's as close as I can get to machining metal without actually using metal that I know.
