Assisting suicide in Canada

There’s a certain irony to this story… A citizen being prosecuted, and ultimately pleading guilty to assisting suicide, where the government is actively doing the same.

This is the story of a guy named Kenneth Law. He apparently met people online on social media platforms discussing suicide, and would sell them chemical kits to facilitate them committing suicide.

Absolutely demonic. But who knows… Maybe he was inspired and thought he had a political permission slip to do what the government of Canada does.

I believe he was initially charged with second-degree murder, and they were going to up that to first-degree murder. But a ruling from the Supreme Court of Canada made it exceedingly difficult to pursue first-degree murder charges, so they struck a plea deal for 14 counts of assisted suicide.

Each carries a maximum sentence of 14 years. Though a cumulative sentence is apparently unlikely.

Just an awful story.
