Wrote a trip update

This will make you laugh, and make you sick. Not sure in which order…

I wake up this Father’s Day in a hotel in Florence, South Carolina.

Three of us sleeping in one bed because the height of bed sucked.

Wake up in the morning to Manny at the side of the bed. As I walk to go get his leash, I see what appears to be a crumpled sock on the ground. Like an idiot, I nudge with my foot.

It was not a sock. It was a big poop.

I clean it up, or so I thought. Seems I left a little nugget somewhere on the carpet. Which a kid promptly stepped in and not realizing it, got back into bed. 😂

After spending 30 minutes, cleaning the hotel room to make sure they don’t apply that $50 deposit for incidentals, we hit the road.

On the road, Manny - who , for some reason, has a fear of getting into the car - decides to throw up on the seat.

The kids clean up the vomit, or at least as much as they can. Manny then immediately proceeds to lick up, whatever is left between the cracks of the cushion.

And then Winston decides to throw up!

And no, it has nothing to do with my driving! 😂

As we’re driving, we watch Lord of War. Skipping over two scenes which were violent beyond thresholds.

After watching (in my case, listening) to the movie, we listen to a documentary on how the DEA arrested the merchant of death - Viktor Boit.

Pretty fascinating documentary. It was made before he was traded for that basketball player.

Heavy traffic at Richmond.

We should be at the hotel with at least an hour to spare before the show.

The kids don’t yet know it, but they are going to need to read some Supreme Court decisions and summarize them for me. 😝

And that has been our Father’s Day up until now.

On the road again!

We made it back safe!

Going to write a book review right now. Just wanted to let everyone know that we made it back safe and sound.

We noticed the car was vibrating yesterday. I thought it was wheel alignment issues.

This is what we saw we got home.

Thank goodness we did not have a problem on the highway! Chattanooga to Boca in one day.

The event was fantastic. It was great meeting everyone!

Appearance on Richard Syrette

I did a quick hit on Richard Syrette yesterday. Gotta keep Canadians apprised of the U.S. madness.

Just trying to expand reach. Though it looks like Spotify found the greatest way to make money off creators while slow-playing their monetization.

The Barnes Brief: Weekend of July 31, 2026
I. THE INTRODUCTION

A. Art of the Day
  • My idea for a perfect Saturday brunch, sitting by an open window in Venice along the canals, fresh flowers gracing the table and balcony, the blue skies and 18th century buildings smiling back, gondoliers parked, an Italian meal awaiting, in this Atlantis of cultured living.

B. Wisdom of the Day
  • Hubris infects the strong, not the weak; the clever, not the  knave; the smart, not the illiterate; the previously successful, not the prior failed. It’s what makes it so inviting, so tempting, and so destructive — precisely because it infects the very people who need to be most immune from it.

I. THE INTRODUCTION

A. Art of the Day
  • The well worn wooden desk, the papers stacked, the lamp lit office, the window’s view to the outer worls, the chalkboard for inspiration, the books stacked, the deep leather chair, and a bottle of bourbon for the work’s end. A perfect office.

B. Wisdom of the Day
  • “Hubris is the arrogance that just scrapes the stars as it falls fast and furious to the demise of its exhibitor.”

  • The Venetian arched bridge above, the old walls of the city surround, the bricklaid road ahead, the dance of light against the alley, as the shadow makes us bigger than ourselves.
