Viva Brief (a short brief... get it?)

Two things in the news today that are driving me crazy. To be discussed in greater detail today, but:

1) UFC text message scandal involving Daniel Cormier (OG fighter and now commentator) and Eric Trump.

ALLEGEDLY, Cormier posted on X with a tweet that said something to the effect of "going to get in trouble for this, but calling out corruption" because allegedly Eric Trump DM'ed Cormier asking if any of UFC 250 fights are rigges.

Cormier dismissively said he was "hacked". Eric confirmed, and thanked DC for deleting the tweet.

I just don't understand if Cormier made the tweet as a joke because his DMs were hacked, or if he didn't make the post at all.

The post itself is laughably stupid. Like Eric Trump would put something so stupid in writing - instead of just calling Dana White or Joe Rogan directly! lol

Even if Cormier thought it was actually real, there is NO WAY he ever posts it because it would mean the end of the UFC.

I just don't understand what exactly happened and it's driving me nuts.

2) Social media ban for under 16 takes effect in UK

People are dumb, People are lazy. And people are corrupt. And the last group usually end up in government to exploit and abuse the first two groups.

This "ban" has nothing to do with protecting kids. It has to do with regulating adults and anonymizing the internet.

And the campaign of people cheering it on feels like an OP.

How stupid can people be?

Comparing social media to drugs...

Equating social media with porn.

Social media may trigger certain addictions / behaviours, but to equate it to drugs denies words of meaning. Now, all the government needs to say is "[fill in the blank] is just like drugs so we can ban.

People equating social media as a tool to porn / gore as content also make me go nuts.

My daughter's TikTok feed is filled with Beta fish and aquarium videos.

My other daughter's is gymnastics.

Social media is the tool. Porn and gore is the subset of content you can access with the tool.

Parents think what they want for their kids can be imposed on others.

Parents not realizing exactly where this goes:

Can't allow kids on social media because of risk of harm.

Must get your kid the Covid jab because of risk of harm.

Must affirm your kid's gender identity because refusal to do so risks harm.

What's that? You didn't get your kid the shot? You called little Mollie "her"? Fine for you. And we take your kids, because to leave them with you risks harm.

Also, how are kids banned from social media? Oh yeah, the adult need to show proof of age.

Goodbye anonymity.

UK been locking up people for mean social media posts.

And now they've got your biometrics.

To protect your kids,.

Because you can't raise your kids yourself.

Because you want to wash your hands of responsibility.

Not YOU, our community. The proverbial "you" govern-me-harder daddy online types who don't understand the hell they just ushered in.

The best prisoner is the one who feels they need the shackles because they don't trust their own hands.

I just made that up.

BOOYA!

Canada US tariff war

“We need to fight these tariffs dollar to dollar” -Doug Ford

“As Donald trump is trying to inflict pain on every Canadian, that we inflict pain right back” -Also Doug Ford

It’s amazing. He actually said this out loud.

Also, this buffoon does not seem to understand what happens when you try to fight dollar to dollar with someone who is 13 times richer than you.

@Thefarmacyreal: A silent revolution has breached the aisles of America’s largest retailers, changing the very fabric of the food supply without the flash of a single warning label. Pioneer biotech firms, most notably The EVERY Company with its OvoPro protein, have successfully bypassed the traditional chicken coop by engineering a “lab-grown”, animal-free egg white protein.

By extracting egg-white genes and fermenting them inside industrial vats with genetically modified yeast, they have created a substance “molecularly identical” to a real hen’s egg—completely eliminating the bird from the equation. Armed with official FDA “no questions” clearance letters, these stealth ingredients have already infiltrated everyday consumer products. From the bakery section to the health aisles, this “bio-identical” protein is secretly texturizing ...

  • From a board member, the liveliness in this photograph, balancing and blending nature to the inner surroundings, the warm, thick, colorful carpet above stone floors, the brick-made walls below the wooden beam roof (reminding me of the old homes on the little island in the center of Paris), the broad windows embracing the light, the flowers percolating throughout, the spices along the shelves, the pillowed chair waiting, all so natural, so human, so inviting.
