This is the stuff of nightmares. I’m going to see if I can find the lawsuit itself, although the details from the article are sufficiently gross.
A woman goes in for a pretty standard hernia operation.
She notices a Brown “feculent” fluid persistently oozing from the incision.
I learned a new word today, and I think I’m going to barf.
Fast forward, she dies of sepsis because they perforated her bowels, and it was poop leaking into her body and coming out of the incision.
And while I rightly conclude medical malpractice, I also question the thought process of any person who would not immediately rushed to the hospital after seeing feculent brown liquid oozing from an open incision weeks after the surgery.
