In this 250th anniversary year of the Declaration of Independence, let's READ IT and remember that the purpose of government is to protect the Rights of the actual People - NOT corporations.
Thousands of independent farmers across the U.S. can attest to the fact that toxic chemical pesticides are UNNECESSARILY contaminating our food, our farmland, and our waters.
Abundant nutritious food can be, and is being, produced across the U.S. without toxic man-made pesticides. Please contact me for specific examples, if you need them.
Supporting the current Farm Bill means saying yes to a blanket - unconstitutional - pesticide liability shield, which would deprive every American who is harmed of their Constitutionally protected Right to sue. Not only would it block pesticide victims, and the families of children harmed by pesticides, from bringing lawsuits, it would severely restrict the EPA's authority to regulate pesticides, including gylphosate- which has contaminated every pond, stream, lake & river in the U.S.; it falls in the rain. And completely eliminates the power of the States to protect us.
The current Farm Bill completely guts the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the law that governs how the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates pesticides. It creates sweeping exemptions to FIFRA and huge changes to EPA reviews. At the same time that it makes EPA’s pesticide authority weak to non-existent, it concentrates power over pesticides with the agency, forbidding all the States from doing anything to protect us- including preventing courts from hearing cases brought on behalf of people who have been sickened, injured, or killed by pesticides.
The chemical companies spending 100 million dollars to support this bill are the very corporations that would receive the liability shield. Many of these corporations also manufacture drugs used to treat the symptoms of the harms caused by the poisons they also produce.
Many of the corporations making these poisonous pesticides and the 'treatment' are foreign; reportedly 85% Chinese; corporations that import much of these toxic synthetic chemical compounds into our country. This is obviously a matter of national security, but not the way Donald J. Trump meant.
School lunches across America were tested and found to contain more pesticides toxins in the food than actual nutrients.
Chronic childhood illness across the U.S. have been connected to chemical herbicides, insecticides, fungicides & rodenticides. Many of the pesticides that would be covered by the liability shield are banned in other countries for causing cancer, mental health issues, and reductive damage. Most of those are reportedly produced in China. Why are pesticides that are BANNED in other countries for such known serious harms to human health even allowed in the U.S.?!
Military food recently tested by Moms Across America detected the highest levels of pesticides that the testing laboratory has EVER seen. This weakens our military, creates a national security risk, and impacts the stability & future of our entire country. The current EPA process doesn’t even review the final pesticide formulations which are brought to market; the chemical formulations applied by farmers, which then contaminates our water, our wildlife, and our entire food supply.
Your food supply.
Current EPA regulations require the manufacturing company to track safety and "side effects" of only the "active ingredients" in a pesticide - not the entire formula of the product as sold or applied - for 4 days. FOUR DAYS.
A blanket liability shield in the Farm Bill would only increase the harms, remove accountability, and make Americans sicker.
This is not in the best interests of the People of the State, or our country.
Thank you for taking a stand against ANY liability immunity for any pesticides - and for protecting the health & safety of all Americans.
Your constituent~
