Given the weaponization and misconduct of the prosecution against Bibi, I would not be opposed.

"US President Donald Trump demands the Israeli justice system drop its corruption case against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel, which has just had one of its Greatest Moments in History, and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their Great War Time Prime Minister!” Trump writes in a lengthy post on Truth Social.

Trump calls the corruption probe a “politically motivated case.”

“Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State,” Trump says.

“It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu. THIS TRAVESTY OF ‘JUSTICE’ CAN NOT BE ALLOWED!” he says. Trump writes that he “just learned that Bibi has been summoned to Court on Monday.” It’s unclear what hearing he is referring to; Netanyahu’s cross-examination, which began earlier this month, is due to resume after the courts went on emergency footing amid the war with Iran, with only urgent proceedings taking place."

"US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will hold a “major” news conference on Thursday morning, US President Donald Trump says, as his administration pushes to quell doubts over the damage done by US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“Hegseth, together with Military Representatives, will be holding a Major News Conference tomorrow morning at 8 A.M. EST at The Pentagon, in order to fight for the Dignity of our Great American Pilots,” Trump says in a post on Truth Social.

“The News Conference will prove both interesting and irrefutable,” he says."

"US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff reiterates his belief that additional countries will join the Abraham Accords.

“We think we will have big announcements on countries that are coming into the Abraham Accords,” he tells CNBC in an interview.

He made a similar prediction at an Israel Independence Day event last month. “We think [we] will have some, or a lot of announcements, very, very shortly, which we hope will yield great progress by next year.”"

"Hamas is taking control of humanitarian aid entering the northern Gaza Strip and stealing it from Gazan civilians, says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz in a joint late-night statement.

They instruct the IDF to present to them within 48 hours a plan to keep Hamas from stealing aid, according to the statement.

The announcement comes an hour after former prime minister Naftali Bennett, who looks to be a leading challenger to Netanyahu in the next election, posted on X a video of armed men he says are Hamas operatives riding on trucks full of humanitarian aid that they had taken over. He wrote that soldiers in the ground told him their orders are to let trucks in to Gaza with no attempt to control what happens to them."

"Iranian authorities are pivoting from a ceasefire with Israel to intensifying an internal security crackdown across the country with mass arrests, executions and military deployments, particularly in the restive Kurdish region, officials and activists said.

Within days of Israel’s airstrikes beginning on June 13, Iranian security forces started a campaign of widespread arrests accompanied by an intensified street presence based around checkpoints, the officials and activists said.

Some in Israel and exiled opposition groups had hoped the military campaign, which targeted Revolutionary Guards and internal security forces as well as nuclear sites, would spark a mass uprising and the overthrow of the Islamic Republic.

While Reuters has spoken to numerous Iranians angry at the government for policies they believed had led to the Israeli attack, there has been no sign yet of any significant protests against the authorities.

However, one senior Iranian security official and two other senior officials briefed on internal security issues said the authorities were focused on the threat of possible internal unrest, particularly in Kurdish areas..."

"Iran’s parliament approved a bill on Wednesday to suspend cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, state-affiliated news outlet Nournews reported.

The move, which needs the final approval of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council to be enforced, according to Nournews, follows a 12-day war, launched by Israel in order to prevent its longtime enemy from developing a nuclear weapon.

In parliament, 221 lawmakers voted in favor and one abstained, with no votes against from those present in the 290-seat legislature, according to state TV.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf was quoted by state media as saying Iran would accelerate its civilian nuclear program.

Tehran denies seeking nuclear weapons and says a resolution adopted this month by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) declaring Iran in breach of its non-proliferation obligations paved the way for Israel’s attacks..."

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not attempt to harness Israeli successes in Operation Rising Lion against Iran by calling for an election in the near future, a senior minister told The Jerusalem Post. The comment came in the wake of a report by Channel 12’s Dafna Liel that the prime minister’s office was considering calling for a snap election in order to take advantage of the successes in Iran for electoral gain.

According to the minister, Liel’s report and other similar rumors were intended to signal to the haredi (ultra-Orthodox) parties that the prime minister was not afraid of an election, should they attempt to threaten one in order to gain concessions on the haredi exemption from IDF service. However, there was no concrete intention to head to an election in the near future, the minister said..."

Trump talking about the broken cease-fire

This is going to be filed as an exhibit in support of the theory that Netanyahu dragged Trump into the conflict.

Trump sounds righteously pissed that after he publicly announces a cease-fire, Netanyahu goes in and bombs away.

On my bike ride today…

And I believe I recorded this at the exact moment the news was being reported that there’s a tentative cease-fire in the Middle East.

Art of the Day: Bansky, the infamous anonymous muralist, whose famed art appears overnight in hot spots around the globe, eviscerates war propaganda with the brilliant contrasting images of his Bombs with Babies. Gets the point across with elegant efficacy. The only certainty with war is horror awaits someone, somewhere. A bias toward NO tenders out universal humanitarianism.

Book Recommendation: The Achilles Trap: The Iraq War.  Riddled with incompetency, the decisions at each stage backfired in our Mideastern war politics, summed up as we “failed to grasp critical nuances” of the enemy.

Wisdom of the Day: “But America goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy…. America well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign Independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom. The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force. The frontlet upon her brow would no longer beam with the ineffable splendor of Freedom and Independence; but in its stead would soon be substituted an Imperial Diadem, flashing in false and tarnished lustre the murky radiance of dominion and power. She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit.” John Quincy Adams.

Barnes Brief: Special War Edition, Monday, June 16, 2025
  • When swing state voters were asked in 2024, they overwhelmingly opposed joining any war between Israel and Iran.

  • This is nothing new, as the same skepticism animated voter response during the Iran nuclear weapons panic of 2009.

  • Americans do not want the US to be the dominant player on the world’s stage.

  • Americans see us as overinvolved already.

  • Americans do not want to risk war with nuclear powers.

  • Americans no longer believe intervention solves anything.

  •  This reflects souring opinion on military interventions in general.

  • Americans saw this all the way back to the Korean war that sunk Truman.

  • They just as quickly turned on the Iraq war that crushed Bush and the Bush coalition forever.

  • Part of this also reflects that Americans increasingly view Netanyahu’s Israeli government skeptically.

  • Skepticism of Israel under Netanyahu is now a global phenomenon.

  • The only group that a majority supports Israel over the Palestinian cause are now reduced to boomercons.

  • Hence, Trump’s temporary Gaza idea was widely rejected right away by voters.

  • Indeed, a surge in opposition amongst younger independent voters even has a bare majority supporting even giving military aid at all to Israel.

  • Americans are even split on helping Israel against Hamas, fueled by young voter skepticism.

  • Every group is trending negative toward Netanyahu’s Israel.

Hence, why so few Americans back American direct involvement in a war with Iran.

Art of the Day: Rose Window, Notre Dame. The stunning stained glass of the great old church astounds up close as much as it amazes from a distance. A bucket list item of mine checked off a decade ago when I attended the midnight mass at Christmas at Notre Dame, the most literary legendary church in the western world, sitting over an ancient site of religious recognition and spiritual invocation before Catholicism even set its first cornerstone on this little island in the Seine, with its underground waterways eminating up through to its recipients of the comforting waves above. The brilliance of the masons that molded the glass with copper and sapphire, forging this remarkable window into their own artistic minds where God meets man and expresses itself over the centuries for us all to bewilder and bewonder its symmetry of shape, colorful expression, and remaking of a physical glass into a rose resembling petal, whispering at the cycle of life and a quick glimpse into God’s soul as well as that of nature and of our own.

Book Recommendation: Revolt of the Elites by Christopher Lasch. He forecast it all a quarter-century ago -- a new globalist aristocracy distant from national identity, common culture, and worker-led economics that threatened our collective futures.

Wisdom of the Day: “The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.” President Eisenhower.
