Hello lovely people! I’m back from living a nightmare: The Kenneth Fire and the Pacific Palisades Fire were threatening our neighborhood and we experienced living in a war zone! Electricity out and no internet since Tuesday afternoon until this Saturday morning at 1:30am (notification said there could still be interruptions in service). Note: Here is a VERY brief summary of my experience!
First, it was terrifying to try to evacuate when the 101 freeway going North or South were a literal parking lot AND getting off the freeway to work surface streets were ALSO a parking lot everywhere! Yes, we know to always keep a full tank of gas and we’re prepared but you still worry! We worked our way back home because we were listening to the radio and the news reports stated the “Emergency Immediate Evacuation” orders were sent to everyone everywhere regardless of proximity to any danger and that the County and State Officials were apologizing for their mistake! (The Democrats are fk’ing with people: later we saw a Local Reporter’s live interview of Gov. Gavin Newscum and he was smiling almost gleefully laughing as he was expressing how the state will support the people, but his face IN NO WAY matched his words!).
Second, everyone in this neighborhood was supporting each other but some had left for places like Las Vegas and Arizona and some had struggled but managed to find hotels but those places lost power also: as a result some returned to pack more items to leave the state for a while. A significant number remained to let the traffic flow lighten up in case we needed to leave and we wanted to know about power and fuel availability in Ventura County California (when the power is out the gas pumps can’t pump gas: ALSO Tesla car owners were furious because they were stuck).
Third, Friday at about 9:pm an arsonist set fire to a neighbor’s fence and the plants alongside it: that neighbor was home and saw immediately and confronted the criminal, but couldn’t hold onto him because he had to put out that fire 🔥 I saw it from my house and it looked to reach 6 feet in height. Thank God our neighbor got that fire out fast! So many neighbors jumped when we saw the flames and got out with powerful lights and searched all houses up and down the street and some got in their cars and drove around the neighborhood! These wonderful men kept their patrols going till daylight! The Fire Department did send a fire truck quickly and a sheriff came too! About two hours later, the power company Southern California Edison sent out a truck and spoke to one of the neighbors patrolling and he told them that we need power restored to discourage arsonists. I believe the company knows that public safety is a consideration on MANY levels so, given that neighboring communities had been restored to power a day earlier and we were not now in fire danger except from arsonists, they did give us power including the internet at 1:30 am.
Finally, there is so much widespread ongoing trama and high winds are expected, although the wind here is not blowing at all, the nerves are raw, I’ve seen some neighbors crying because of the extreme fear they experienced. Most people like myself are just exhausted beyond measure, so I’m just going to recover my own nerves and sleep, and more sleep and just try to rebalance to my feisty self: I won’t be posting for this weekend at least. The sirens can still be heard but thankfully at a distance and the helicopters are still flying so it’s still very active and we’re not letting our guard down and cars will remain packed because we’re not one hundred percent out of the woods.
Final Note: DON’T let anyone or any news report tell you that ARSONISTS weren’t out here setting fires! I know of several people who had their experiences encountering ARSONISTS.
It happened right here just four houses away! Thanks everyone…I posted this for anyone who is curious and concerned about how the public is so abused in this country: billions to Ukraine but not enough money for Fire Departments or public safety in general: the global elites, the UNIPARTY especially DEMOCRATS are total psychopaths! My anger is on the horizon!

Declaration of Independence
From bad to worse in California…

It appears people broke into an army reserve center in California and stole THREE Humvees, machine gun vehicle mounts, machine gun tripods, and tried to steal uniforms.

Setting aside the obvious question: how in the name of sweet holy hell do you steal and conceal three Humvees…

These people should be immediately regarded as terrorists, not not referred to as mere “thieves”.

The Barnes Brief: Friday, October 25, 2024

Schedule: Past & Prospective

Art of the Day: The pride of skill, the mastery of craft, the aesthetic of labor as the anesthetic answer to a commodified, corporatized, dehumanized life imagined for the working class by distant elites. The deindustrialization of America damaged the soul of America, as it replaced empowering honest labor with numbers on a balance sheet of a bureaucratized, soul-lobotomized number-cruncher. Rebalancing the productive economy requires respecting honest work that produces real and tangible value beyond dollars and cents.

Book Recommendation: Working class rebellion of the 1970s. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8614946-stayin-alive?

Wisdom of the Day: “Work is just living out the script to Office Space. We don’t devalue work; work devalues us.” Gen Z worker explaining the antipathy of the Gen Z to the modern workplace.

Closing Argument: The Story Polls Tell Us

Book Recommendation: An argument for Trump-style economics from three decades ago by one of the most prescient political analysts of American modern history. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/693546.Staying_on_Top

Art of the Day: I don’t know how impractical it might be, but I’ve always wanted to build a home containing glass ceilings and glass floors in varying parts of the home, to immerse the living space into the outer environment, feeling the skies above and the dirt below, with a special fondness for window views, like clear sky or mountain views from above and river or creek views outside and below. This image captures part of that fascination.

Wisdom of the Day: "Why you talkin' about abortion when we can't feed our kids?" Black woman voter in Las Vegas explaining to a journalist why she's voting Trump over Harris.

Closing Argument: The Story Polls Tell Us

  • Let’s contrast 2020 to 2024 using one of the most established media supported polls that abandoned election-eve polling after 2012 due to the difficulties faced in predictive surveying of the modern electorate – due to disparate rate of response from different constituencies as landlines disappeared, do-not-call lists blocked prospective pollsters, and other modern methods of text polling, cell-phone polling, automated polling, and online polling proved littered with landmines and traps for the unskilled or unethical. What we can do, though, is compare like-to-like: how is 2024 shaping up differently than 2020, using the same final October poll of the same pollster using the same modes and methods, Pew.
  • In their final 2020 poll, Pew forecast a ten-point Biden win. In their final 2024 poll, Harris holds a within-the-margin-of-error one-point slim lead. Where are the biggest demographic shifts?
  • This is the shift in margin from Biden to Trump in Pew’s final polls. Men shift from Biden to Trump by 12 points. Voters without any college degree shift from Biden to Trump by 13 points. Black voters shift from Biden to Trump by 15 points. Hispanic voters shift from Biden to Trump by 18 points. White non-Hispanic Catholics shift from Scranton Joe to Trump-Vance by 18 points. Independent voters shift from Biden to Trump by 20 points. Asian voters shift from Biden to Trump by 21 points. Non-college black and Hispanic movers shift from Biden to Trump by 21 points. Black men shift from Biden to Trump by 25 points. Hispanic women shift from Biden to Trump by 25 points. New voters shift from Biden to Trump by 25 points. Millennial voters shift from Biden to Trump by 27 points.
  • Hone down and almost all of the loss of Harris’ vote share from Biden comes primarily from self-described Independent, working-class, non-college, millennial, and minority men, unhappy with the economy, immigration and foreign war risk. Just one more data-point confirming what we’ve been predicting here for the better part of a year. The multi-color new coalition of the Emerging Majority is here, and it’s favorite color is Trump Orange.
