Quick once-over of X lawsuit against Media Matter
I did a quick once-over of X's lawsuit against Media Matters
The 3 causes of action are:
1) Interference with contract;
2) Business disparagement; and
3) Interference with prospective economic advantage.
I suspect Media Matters will argue that their "report" aside, and setting aside the 2nd cause of action, what advertisers chose to do is up to advertisers, not Media Matters.
The lawsuit did not cite any specific "calls to action" by Media Matters for advertisers to suspend advertising. Not sure if Musk has any such correspondence or if he knows of its existence. But it would be useful to save any such tweets / social media posts from Media Matters directly or indirectly calling for advertisers to pull their ads.
As for their deceitful chicanery, that will be between them and a judge - and whatever comes out of discovery - if it gets there. I suspect there will be a Motion for Dismissal based on Texas SLAPP laws since Media Matters was, in theory, exercising 1st Amendment rights on a matter of public importance.
We will see. But the aggregate power of the interwebs should crowdsource, gather and/or preserve any and all relevant evidence to sink these MMFA'ing scoundrels.
