Epstein alleged-victim presser recap

I watched virtually the entire conference. The more I think about it, the more of a debacle I believe it was.

You get scummy lawyers involved, and things go to hell.

The victims went on and on about transparency, wanting to protect children, future victims, and then failed / refused to name any of the names of the people they claim abused them or covered up in the abuse.

The only credible alleged victim did claim that her own file is being withheld from here, as was done in 2008 when Epstein got the sweetheart plea deal.

As for the rest, they were literally teasing disclosure. One even publicized her career, and said the victims were going to make their own list and keep it confidential. Which sounds more like a shakedown than call for transparency.

Then the lawyers refused to answer a legitimate question from a journalist, and instead rejoices at his expulsion.

Total poop-show that I feel did damage to Khanna and Masse's bill.

If I were those two, I'd be irritated.

Just finished my first game

Never bowled in a league before. The lane is actually totally beautiful. Took some time to figure it out, but I think the second game should be a little bit better than a 149! 😂

Shiloh Hendrix

Not really feeling to cheery now - re: ostrich farm, but this video was slated for release today.

Shiloh Hendrix update. But there are bigger emergencies to deal with now.

Appearance on Richard Syrette

I did a quick hit on Richard Syrette yesterday. Gotta keep Canadians apprised of the U.S. madness.

I. INTRODUCTION

A. Art of the Day: The curved Victorian couch under the open window, with the kerosene lamp before the moonlit azure sky, the TV on behind as welcome rest beckons. The firmness of these old curved couches reminds of what furniture was once reliably made with style and to be steady and strong as a structure, but also to serve a function beyond appearance or aesthetic for something as fundamental as rest.

B. Wisdom of the Day:  “He understood that the foreign aid game was a sham - he had to know. It existed to make him rich and to shackle his country with debt.” John Perkins, Confession of an Economic Hit Man.

C. Cultural Recommendation: The Debt Trap. Critics of the IMF proved prescient. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1865314.The_debt_trap?

Barnes Brief: Daily Edition, Thursday, August 28, 2025

I. INTRODUCTION

A. Appearances

B. Art of the Day: The necessary reading nook, like the kind I’d try to form for myself at bookstores like Shakespeare in Paris, or for one’s residence to shape a place to disappear within, chasing the thoughts of the author and oneself, transported to other worlds made comfortable by the hugging chair, warm blankets, and surrounded books.

C. Wisdom of the Day: “To love the little platoon we belong to in society is the first principle of public affections.” Edmund Burke.

D. Cultural Recommendation: 1775: A Good Year for Revolution by Kevin Phillips. Brilliant text detailing the people, and ideas, that made the world greatest revolution arise. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13588422-1775
