I just listened to Glenn on Lex.
A meaningful revelation I had (this first part is not part of the revelation): America is often criticized as being built on slavery, but it is not given credit for being the nation that fought and died to set slaves free (credit to Britain as well) in a world that still maintained a slave system.
My revelation: In the era of identity politics, people use the term “African American” to group all black Americans together under the umbrella of the history of slavery.
But above, and beyond being the country that fought to free the slaves, there are generations of black/African Americans who voluntarily immigrated to America for a better life, for the freedom, prosperity and better life that America represented, and hopefully will continue to represent.
It is a marathon of a podcast. If you only have six minutes, listen to the portion at 2 hrs 39 minutes to 2 hrs 45 minutes.
